PRINCETON, N.J. -- The majority of Ivy League squads will head to Purchase, N.Y. this Saturday to take part in Yale University's Met Intercollegiate.
With four weeks remaining before the Ivy League Championship is played at Baltusrol Golf Club (April 25-27), this is the first weekend that most of the Ivies will be in action. Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and host Yale will take part in Saturday's event.
Columbia has played two events in the last 10 days, finishing 12th at The Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz. and finishing winning Villanova's Wildcat Invitational in Malvern, Pa. yesterday. The Lions carded rounds of 311-297-284=892 to take the team title by one shot over Army. Harrison Shih (75-73-71=219) finished for tied for third and Brandon Jowers (77-71-72=220) was tied for fifth.
Yale was 10th at the Linger Longer Invitational last week in Greenwood, Ga. Will Davenport (74-70-72=216) led the way by shooting even-par for the tournament and placing 15th.
Penn's last event - the LaSalle Spring Invitational - was postponed a week ago. The Quakers placed 18thg at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate to open the spring slate.
The Met Intercollegiate will be a one-day, 36-hole double event. Golfers will begin at Century Country Club in the morning and play Old Oaks Country Club in the afternoon. This year's tournament features an eight-team field that also includes No. 5-ranked Georgia and Army.
