, N.J. -- This weekend's ECAC Hockey semifinals features an exclusive Ivy League showdown in the second game as Harvard and Cornell meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16 in Atlantic City's famed Boardwalk Hall. The winner of that game will advance to the 2012 ECAC Hockey Championship game, scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.

Harvard advanced to championship weekend by downing Yale in last weekend's three-game series, two games to one. The Crimson lost the first game in overtime, 2-1, but rebounded to take the second game in double overtime, 4-3. Harvard then won the deciding game, 8-2. In the dramatic game two, sophomore Dan Ford scored at 9:20 of the second overtime to give the Crimson the win.

Cornell, which entered the postseason ECAC Hockey tournament as the second seed, posted a sweep of Dartmouth last weekend to book a place in the semifinals. In game one, the Big Red edged the Big Green in double overtime, 4-3, on the strength of a Sean Whitney goal scored with 2:20 to play in the period.

The winner of the Cornell-Harvard game will take on the winner of the Colgate-Union semifinal, which is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start. The losers of each semifinal game will play in a consolation game preceding Saturday's championship.

Last season, Yale defeated Cornell in the title game, 6-0, to capture its second title in three years (2009). Cornell took down Union, 3-0, to claim the 2010 championship. All told, Ivy teams have combined to win 24 ECAC Hockey Tournament titles dating back to 1962, including each of the last four championships and nine of the last 10.
