PRINCETON, N.J. -- Five men's ice hockey Ivies will open postseason play on Friday night when the first round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament drops the puck.
No. 11 Harvard heads to New Haven this weekend to face rival and No. 6 seed Yale inside Ingalls Rink. The defending national champion Bulldogs own a 15-9-5 record in 2013-14 and are coming off a 5-0 win over Rensselaer. Friday night's opening game will be the fourth time the two have met this season with Yale owning a 2-0-1 edge thus far.
Dartmouth travels to RPI this weekend as the Big Green come into the tournament as the No. 10 seed. Dartmouth is 5-7 all-time in the postseason against RPI. The Big Green will enter the tournament as one of the hottest teams, compiling a 5-2-1 overall record since the start of February, including a 4-0-1 record in its last five games.
Brown makes the trip to St. Lawrence for its first round series. The Bears enter as the No. 9 overall seed, finishing the 2013-14 campaign with a 11-15-3 overall record and 8-13-1 in conference play. Brown owns a 3-2 advantage all-time against St. Lawrence in the ECAC playoffs.
Princeton is the No. 12 seed in the tournament and will take on sixth-seeded Clarkson in Potsdam, N.Y. The Golden Knights defeated the Tigers 3-1 last weekend and 4-3 back on Feb. 8 inside Hobey Baker Rink. Andrew Ammon paces Princeton with 20 points in 29 games this season.
The winners of the best-of-three weekend series will advance to the quarterfinals next weekend. No. 4 Cornell has already advanced to the quarterfinals with its first round bye.
The semifinals and championship game are set for March 21-22 at Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
