PRINCETON, N.J. -- Six of the seven Ivy League men's lacrosse teams opened their 2012 seasons over the weekend and the League combined for a 5-1 record, including wins by Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale and Brown.

Amongst the victories, No. 14/19 Princeton knocked off No. 13/15 Hofstra, 12-6, and Dartmouth came up with a 9-6 victory at No. 19/20 Colgate.

Though opening play a weekend after most of their opponents', the Ivy offenses were in midseason form as the six teams averaged just under 12 goals per game over the weekend, led by Yale's 19-6 win against St. John's.

No. 15/14 Harvard sent Vermont to a 0-2 record on the year when it downed the Catamounts 11-4, while Brown closed out the League's opening weekend with a 12-7 victory at Quinnipiac.

Penn officially opened the 56th season of Ivy League men's lacrosse on Friday night when it fell at No. 8/10 Duke, 12-8. Elsewhere, Cornell's game at Hobart was postponed due to inclement weather.

Princeton sophomore Tom Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.), last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, had a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists in the Tigers' 12-6 win over No. 13/15 Hofstra. When the Pride cut a 6-2 deficit to a one-goal game at 6-5, Schreiber took over and scored two goals and added two of his assists to lead the Tigers' offense when they needed it most. The midfielder, who was a 2012 preseason first-team All-America selection, also picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover.

A three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week last season, this is Schreiber's first career Ivy League Player of the Week honor.
