BALTIMORE, Md. -- The 2012 Ivy League men's lacrosse season is over two months from opening weekend, but Inside Lacrosse has released its annual preseason All-America teams and its preseason rankings as part of its 2012 Face-Off Yearbook and the lists inlcude many Ivy League teams and players.
In all, fifteen Ivy League men's lacrosse players earned various
All-America accolades from the publication, while Cornell (No. 3
IL/5 Coaches'), Harvard (19/13), Penn (14/16), Princeton
(16/17) and Yale (13/18) were all ranked in the 2012 Inside
Lacrosse and the Div. I Coaches' preseason polls.
Five Ivy League players were named first-team All-Americans, including the Cornell trio of attackman Rob Pannell, midfielder Roy Lang and defenseman Jason Noble. Pannell, the 2009 and 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year, and Lang earned the distinction as seniors, while Noble is a junior with the big Red. Princeton placed tww players on the first team including sophomore midfielder Thomas Schreiber, the 2010 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and senior defenseman Chad Weidmaier.
Princeton senior goalie Tyler Fiorito was the lone Ivy named to the second team, while Harvard senior midfielder Kevin Vaughan, Princeton senior long-stick middie John Cunningham and Penn sophomore defenseman Maxx Meyer were all named to the third team.
The 2012 Ivy League men's lacrosse season opens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 when No. 14/16 Penn plays at second-ranked Duke. Then on Saturday, Feb. 25, the remaining six Ivy League teams play their season-opening games.
