PRINCETON, N.J. – Another solid week of
Ivy League men’s soccer play saw the teams combine to go 8-6,
with six of the eight teams picking up at least one win.
Cornell made it five-for-five, remaining undefeated thanks to a
2-1 win over Wofford. The Big Red is 5-0-0 to start the season for
the first time since 1996 and looks to continue its hot play
against Binghamton on Wednesday and Saint Joseph’s on
Saturday. Brown picked up a pair of 1-0 victories last week,
defeating Boston U. and Lehigh. The Bears have given up just one
goal all season. Dartmouth took No. 7 New Mexico to the wire but
was unable to pull out the victory, falling 3-2, before rebounding
to defeat Missouri State, 1-0 in double overtime.
All six of Yale’s games this season have been shutouts, but
finally the Bulldogs were on the winning end as the team picked up
its first two victories of the season, defeating Quinnipiac, 1-0,
and Sacred Heart, 2-0. Princeton and Columbia each went 1-1 on the
week. The Tigers fell to No. 12 Georgetown, 1-0, before defeating
Villanova by the same score, as part of the Ivy League/BIG EAST
Challenge. The Lions took down St. Peter’s, 2-1, before
falling to Delaware, 1-0.
Week four action includes three tournaments, as Brown will face
No. 20 Washington and Portland in the University of Washington
Tournament in Seattle, while Princeton will host its Princeton
Invitational with Penn, Fairleigh Dickinson and Rider. Finally,
Harvard will travel to California to take part in the Nike Central
Coast Challenge, where it will face Cal Poly. The Crimson will play
at UCSB on Sunday before heading back home.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth scored three goals in two games in the New Mexico
Tournament, and sophomore Alex Adelabu (Houston)
netted all three. He scored twice in the Big Green’s 3-2 loss
to No. 7 New Mexico for his first career multi-goal contest and
then tallied the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 double overtime
victory over Missouri State, which snapped the Bears’
seven-game unbeaten streak and handed them their first loss of the
season. For his efforts, Adelabu was named to the All-Tournament
team.
Adelabu takes home his first career Ivy League weekly award and
the first for a Dartmouth player this season. The last Big Green to
earn Player of the Week was Noah Cohen on Oct. 31,
2011. Adelabu now leads Dartmouth in points (11) and goals
(five).

CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Brown freshman Tim Whalen (Amston, Conn.) and
Princeton freshman Thomas Sanner (Indianapolis)
each made their first career goals count for more, as they also
were gamewinners for their teams.
In his first career start, Whalen waited until the first minute of
overtime to net his first career goal, giving Brown the 1-0 victory
over Boston U. Whalen is the first Bear to earn an Ivy League
weekly award this season and Brown’s first Rookie of the Week
since Alex Markes took home the award on Nov. 7,
2011.

Sanner’s first career goal gave the Tigers a 1-0 win over
Villanova during the Ivy League/BIG EAST Classic. The win snapped a
three-game losing streak for Princeton and the goal moved Sanner
into first-place on his team in scoring, as he now has four points.
Sanner also was named Rookie of the Week on Sept. 3. He is the
first Tiger to earn two Rookie of the Week awards in one season
since Patrick O’Neal in 2010 (Oct. 18, Nov.
15).
