PRINCETON, N.J. -- After two weeks of League
play, No. 18 Cornell is alone in first-place in the Ivy League
standings, with four teams close behind as the race for the Ivy
title has only just begun.
Behind a three-point performance by sophomore Conor
Goepel (one goal, one assist), the Big Red defeated
Harvard, 3-1, to improve to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in League play.
Cornell has 10 wins on the season for the first time since 1999 and
is one win shy of tying its longest winning streak since 1995.
The other two teams that entered the week tied with the Big Red
for first-place, No. 19 Brown and Princeton, finished in a 1-1 tie
and are tied for second with four points apiece and matching 1-0-1
records. Dartmouth and Columbia trail close behind with three
points each, as each team is 1-1. The Big Green and the Lions used
1-0 victories over Yale and Penn, respectively, for their first Ivy
wins of the season.
In non-conference action, Brown finished in a scoreless draw with
Fairfield, while Harvard tied Boston College, 1-1. Dartmouth saw
six players tally at least a point in a 3-1 win over Vermont,
3-1.
The upcoming week features another set of Ivy games, with Yale
taking on No. 18 Cornell, Princeton facing Columbia, Penn playing
Dartmouth and No. 19 Brown hosting Harvard.
The non-conference schedule includes a nationally televised game
between No. 24 Creighton and Princeton on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. on
ESPNU. That same day, Columbia will host Providence and Cornell
will play Colgate. Dartmouth will take on Boston College on
Wednesday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth scored three goals in a win over Vermont and one goal in
a victory over Yale, but the common denominator was junior
goalkeeper Noah Cohen (Johannesburg). Cohen
allowed just one goal in the two games while stopping 12 shots. He
recorded six saves in each contest and now has stopped six shots in
three consecutive games. In Ivy League play, Cohen has a 0.99 goals
against average and a 0.857 save percentage. He is tied for the
League-lead with 12 saves in Ivy action.
Cohen takes home his second career Ivy League Player of the Week
award after earning the honor on Oct. 31, 2011. He is the second
Big Green to be named Player of the Week this season, joining
Alex Adelabu (Sept. 17). Cohen is the first
goalkeeper to receive the award since he himself earned the
accolade last season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Columbia played just once last week but made that one game count,
stopping Penn, 1-0. Freshman goalkeeper Kyle
Jackson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) set a career-high with eight
saves while holding the Quakers scoreless for the first time this
season, and the first time since Penn fell to Brown, 1-0 on Oct.
29, 2011. Jackson improved to 3-3-1 on the year with the win.
Jackson was also named Rookie of the Week on Sept. 10. He is
Columbia’s first two-time Rookie of the Week since
Henning Sauerbier took home the award three times
in 2010.
