Men's Soccer Weekly Release - Week 2
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League men's soccer teams kicked off their 59th season of Ancient Eight competition this past week with Penn, Brown, Dartmouth and Cornell coming away undefeated.
Penn earned a pair of shutout wins at home. A year removed from not recording a shutout and allowing 37 goals, the Quakers shutout Stony Brook and Sacred Heart this past weekend. Penn hadn't had consecutive shutouts since October 2010.
Meanwhile, Brown earned a win and a tie against in-state rivals Bryant and Providence, while Cornell tied Detroit and knocked off backyard rival Hartwick in a pair of contests that were both decided in two overtimes.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland (Dayton, Ohio) came up big when it counted in his first college start on Saturday, stopping a penalty kick and two ensuing shots off rebounds to preserve the Big Green’s 1-1 tie against Holy Cross. Cleveland recorded two of his seven saves in a matter of seconds, diving to his left to stop Monty Sanders’ inital attempt and then getting a hand on Sanders’ follow-up. Cleveland played all 110 minutes in the contest.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Penn freshman forward Alec Neumann (New Hope, Pa.) had a five-point afternoon on Sunday to help the Quakers to their second-straight win, a 5-0 blanking of Sacred Heart. Neumann scored twice in the first half, including a block of a clearing attempt by the keeper that he converted into his second tally just before intermission. He then added an assist later in the match to complete his outstanding day.
