MELBOURNE, Australia -- Rising Princeton sophomore Todd Harrity, the 2010 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a national individual finalist, upset the No. 1 player from Hong Kong to win the bronze medal at the 2010 World University Games, held in Melbourne, Australia.

Harrity, who helped lead a five-person U.S. team that encompasses five different Ivy League schools, reached the semifinal round with two victories following a first round bye. In the second round, he topped Australia's Sam Brown 11-3, 11-5, 11-9, then followed with a 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5 upset of Great Britain's Peter Creed, who had been ranked in the top four.

His championship run ended at the hands of second-seeded Jens Schoor, a 23-year-old German ranked 103rd in the world. That sent Harrity to the 3/4 final against Hong Kong's Leo Au, who had earlier defeated Canada's Colin West in a five-game thriller. West, who graduated from Harvard last year, defeated Harrity in the national individual final this past season. Harrity upset Au to finish third, the highest finish for any of the American players.

In the team competition, Harrity was joined on Team USA by Chris Hanson from Dartmouth College, Alex Domenick from Cornell University, Kristen Lange, formerly of the University of Pennsylvania, and Logan Greer of Yale University.

The Ivy quintet went on to capture the bronze with a 2-1 defeat of Canada that included wins by Hanson and Lange.
