Men's Swimming and Diving Update 2

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League men's swimming and diving regular season slate is drawing to a close, with the Harvard Crimson clinching the top spot in the League standings by posting a 7-0 record. The Crimson downed Yale and Princeton at the annual HYP meet to give head coach Tim Murphy the sixth perfect conference regular season in his career and first since the 2007-08 season.
This past weekend, Brown downed Cornell (160-140) in the only Ivy League matchup. The win was the first Ivy League victory of the season for the Bears.
After the regular season comes to a close this weekend, the teams will turn their attention to the 2011 men's swimming and diving Ivy League Championships, which will take place on March 3-5 at Harvard's Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Mass.
Brown (4-3, 1-3 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Bears downed Cornell (160-140) on Feb. 5. The Bears were led by James Hunter, who won the 200 free (1:32.74); Ryan Kikuchi, who won the 100 back (50.89); Conor Carlucci, who won the 100 breast (56.49), the 200 breast (2:05.40) and the 100 fly (49.32); Tommy Glenn, who won the 200 fly (1:50.47); and Timothy Juhn, who won the 50 free (20.66) and the 500 free (4:37.13). The Bears close out their regular season at Yale on Feb. 12.
Columbia (5-3, 3-2 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: Columbia downed Brown (162-136) on Jan. 29 before dropping a 179-121 decision to Navy on Feb. 4. In the win over Brown, senior Adam Powell won the 50 free (20.11) and the 100 free (44.09). His win in the 100 free broke the Uris Pool record, last set in 2008. The Lions ended the win over Brown with a pool record as the 400 free relay team of Hyun Lee, Daniel Tan, John Wright and Powell touched the wall in 3:01.05, besting the previous record of 3:02.86 (set in 2008 by Cornell). The Lions have two Ivy League contests next weekend as they play host to Princeton on Feb. 11 and then travel to Dartmouth to face the Big Green on Feb. 12. Columbia is also slated to take part in the ECAC Championships on Feb. 25-27 in Pittsburgh, Pa. before heading to Harvard for the 2011 Ivy League Championship.
Cornell (6-3, 4-3 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Big Red put together a 5-1 record in its final six dual meets to close out its regular season. Most recently, Cornell was edged at Brown (160-140). Prior to that loss, Cornell won its fifth dual meet in a row, downing Columbia (164-136) at home. In the win versus the Lions, the Big Red were boosted by freshman Phillip Truong's sweep of the diving events. He posted a 322.88 in the 3-meter and a 290.40 in the 1-meter. Other highlights in the Columbia win included Dean Holcomb (1:50.78) and Harry Harpham (1:52.71) finishing 1-2 in the 200 fly and Julian Chan winning the 200 breast (2:07.38).
Dartmouth (1-5, 1-5 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Big Green took part in the Middlebury Invite on Feb. 4 and 5 and also hosted the Dartmouth Invite on Jan. 28 and 29. In the Dartmouth Invitational, Dartmouth finished second with 983 points, bested only by Massachusetts' 1,083 points. Freshman Nejc Zupan had an impressive showing at the Dartmouth Invite as he set pool records in the 400 IM (4:00.22) and the 200 breast (2:03.33). Will Derdeyn also won two events, taking the 100 butterfly (50.10) and the 100 freestyle (46.79). Dartmouth closes out its regular season when it plays host to Ivy rival Columbia on Feb. 12.
Harvard (9-0, 7-0 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: Harvard and Princeton entered the HYP showdown with undefeated marks, with Harvard prevailing (189-164). Harvard also downed Yale (266-87) to give head coach Tim Murphy the sixth perfect conference regular season in his career and first since the 2007-08 season. At the HYP meet, Chris Satterthwaite and Spenser Goodman tied for first in the 200 free (1:38.99) for the Crimson, while Ryan Cutter won the 200 butterfly (1:48.36). In the 50 free, Oliver Lee (20.42) won the event and, along with Wes Stearns, made the NCAA B-cut. The Crimson are off until the Ivy Championship.
Penn (3-4, 5-5 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Quakers most recently downed La Salle on Feb. 1 (181.5-113.5). Cameron Hood, Jeff Cragg and Brendan McHugh each won two events versus La Salle. Hood captured the 500 free (4:44.62) and 200 free (1:43.10); Cragg swept the 1-m (284.63) and 3-m (336.15) diving events; and McHugh earned wins in the 100 breast (57.70) and 200 breast (2:07.64). Before heading to Harvard for the 2011 Ivy League Championship, Penn will swim in Maryland's Terp Invite on Feb. 11 and 12 in College Park, Md.
Princeton (4-2, 4-1 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Tigers earned a split at the HYP meet, which concluded on Jan. 30. Princeton's win came against Yale (238-115), while Harvard defeated the Tigers (189-164). Junior Jon Christensen had an impressive performance at HYP that included individual wins in the 100 breast (55.29), 200 IM (1:49.25) and the 200 breast (1:59.69). His win in the 200 breast set a Yale pool record and it was a NCAA B-cut time. Princeton most recently saw its 92-meet home winning streak come to an end with a 167-133 loss to Navy on Feb. 5. The Tigers close out their regular season when they face Columbia on Feb. 11 in New York, N.Y.
Yale (1-8, 1-5 Ivy League)
Recent Results & Highlights: The Bulldogs finished third at the HYP meet, which wrapped up in New Haven on Jan. 30. The final scores saw Harvard down Yale 266-87, while Princeton earned a 238-115 win over the Bulldogs. Most recently, Yale fell at in-state rival Connecticut (168-132) on Feb. 5. At the HYP meet, freshman Mike Bogese won the 400 IM. Yale closes out its regular season when it plays host to Ivy rival Brown on Feb. 12.
