HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth men's tennis incoming freshman Brandon DeBot entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit Tournament as an unseeded player and came away with the title.
The tournament final featured a long first set with each player earning multiple break points, but DeBot broke through at 4-4 as he held on to his serve until the end of the set at 6-4. He cruised in the next set with a 6-1 win and captured the title in straight sets. During the entire tournament, DeBot only dropped one set and failed to fall in a single game in his first match.
Sophomore Kevin Cox and Mike Jacobs also competed at the event. Cox fell in his first match to Nick Tolomei of Detroit by a 6-3, 6-2 score. Jacobs got to the finals of the consolation with four straight-set victories before falling to Alex Dombos of Kalamazoo. It took three sets, but Jacobs could not take advantage of a first set win. Jacobs then dropped his first match in the main draw, losing in a final-set tie breaker that went to 10-8.
