Harvard Men's Tennis Holds Off Brown to Win 2012 ECAC Indoor Title

HANOVER, N.H. -- The Harvard men’s tennis
team recorded four singles victories on its way to the ECAC Team
Championship, defeating the No. 6 seeded Brown Bears, 4-1. The No.
1 seeded Crimson improved to 10-1 on the year as it took down Ivy
League rivals, Yale, Dartmouth and Brown on the way to the
tournament title.
The Bears got an early lift from its doubles teams, scoring the
matches first point as it went 2-1 in doubles play. Sophomore
Casey MacMaster and senior Alistair
Felton defeated Soufiane Azargui and
Brandon Burke, 8-6, but the teams of junior
Andy Nguyen and freshman Denis
Nguyen and sophomore Christo Schultz and
freshman Alex Steinroeder fell to Brown duos of
Tom Deighton and Michael
Riechmann and Sam Fife and
William Spector, respectively.
Harvard entered singles play, needing four singles points to
secure the win and got just that. Jonathan
Pearlman took down Burke in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
Meanwhile Harvard got production from its No. 4 through No. 6
positions yet again, as Schultz defeated Spector, 6-3, 6-1, from
the No. 4 position, freshman Henry Steer defeated
Mike Hill, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot while
freshman Shaun Chaudhuri held down the No. 6
position taking the match against Fife, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Harvard had a successful weekend throughout the tournament as it went 2-1 during doubles action and 10-3 in singles play.
