NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- It was an Ivy League men's
tennis sweep at the 2013 United States Tennis Association
(USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional
Championships as Columbia junior Winston Lin won
the singles title and Cornell junior Sam Fleck and
freshman Chris Vrabel teamed up to win the double
No. 54-ranked Lin earned the victory over Harvard junior Denis Nguyen by coming back from a 3-6 first set loss with 6-3, 6-1 wins in the next two sets.
The double final was an all-Big Red affair. Fleck and Vrabel defeated teammates Jason Luu and Quoc-Daniel Nguyen. Given that doubles finalists were from the same school, the championship match was allowed to relocate to the Reis Tennis Courts at Cornell where Fleck and Vrabel won by an 8-2 decision.
With the victories, Lin, Fleck and Vrabel earned automatic berths into the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which run Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
