Former Ivy Athlete Leads Charge to Give Back at Indoor Track Championships
Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships Central
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Are you attending the 2011 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Armory on Saturday and Sunday? Do you have gently used running shoes, clothing or equipment laying around your house?
Erison Hurtault, a multiple-time All-American as an athlete at Columbia University and a 2008 Olympian for the island nation of Dominica, has arranged a collection to take place at The Armory during the meet.
On Friday from 4-6 p.m. and throughout the duration of competition on Saturday, Feb. 26, Hurtault will be manning a collection bin on the third floor (track level) of The Armory, accepting all donations from athletes, friends, family and fans.
Hurtault is collecting on behalf of Dominica, the Carribean nation that he has, and continues to represent in international competition since graduating from Columbia in 2007. All donations will be shipped to the Dominica Olympic Committee, which will distribute the items to young, aspiring athletes throughout the country.
“My travels have allowed me to see all of the kids out there who don’t have access to simple items such as shoes and other athletic gear,” Hurtault said. “This sport has given me so much, it is the least that I can do to give back and help others have the opportunity to compete with decent equipment.”
