Last Ivy Standing

If there is going to be a track and field national champion from the Ivy League this year, it will be Cornell senior triple jumper Muhammad Halim, as he posted the second-best mark (52-10 3/4) in the qualifying round at the NCAA Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday.

And if Halim were to win on Saturday, he'd be the second straight Cornellian to win that crown as Rayon Taylor took the title in Sacramento last June.

Three other Leaguers completed their bids for a title on Friday as Princeton sophomore Justin Frick took 11th in the men's high jump (7-0 1/4), Harvard junior Becky Christensen 12th in the women's high jump (5-9 3/4) and Cornell junior Jeomi Maduka 17th in the women's triple jump (42-2 3/4).
