Ivy Men to Send 15 Athletes to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Twelve individual and one relay team representing Ivy League track & field teams advanced through the East Region and will compete on June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, in the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Princeton led the way with five individual qualifiers and the 4x400m relay team. Cornell had a a trio of athletes advance, while decathlete Nick Huber will also compete at the NCAA Championship with a season-best point total of 7,593. Brown, Harvard and Penn had one each qualifier advnace through regional competition.

Tiger junior Donn Cabral earned NCAA Championship qualification in two events, clinching the top time in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:43.11) while also placing third in his heat in the 5,000m run (14:06.55). Cabral's teammate Mark Amirault also advanced through the East Region in the 5,000m run, finishing third in his heat in a time of 14:08.03.

Also earning advancement from the Princeton squad were sophomore Russell Dinkins in the 400m dash (1:49.05), junior David Slovenski in the pole vault (16-10.75, 5.15m) and senior Craig Pearce in the hammer throw (204-05, 62.31m).

The Tiger 4x400m relay team of Tom Hopkins, Dinkins, Mike Eddy and Austin Hollimon raced to a qualifying time of 3:05.86, crushing their own Ivy League record of 3:07.57, set earlier this season.

From Brown, reigning javelin national champion Craig Kinsley easily advanced to his third consecutive NCAA Championship with a throw of 242-10 (74.02m), the top mark in the East Region.

Penn freshman Maalik Reynolds advanced to the NCAA Championship in the high jump, earning a qualifying mark of 7-01.50 (2.17m). Rounding out the Ivy athletes earning NCAA qualification were the Cornell trio of Adrien Dannemiller in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:40.79), Nate Edelman in the 10,000m (29:10.11) and Gary Jones in the triple jump (50-11, 15.52m).
