PRINCETON, N.J. -- The eight Ivy men's and women's cross country squads concluded their final major races of the regular-season with standout performances at a trio of meets.
Pre-Nationals Invitational (hosted by Indiana State)
Led by Donn Cabral's sixth-place, 23:36.1 finish, Princeton's men earned the highest team finish of all Ivy squads at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, placing fifth in the Blue Race with 196 points. Dartmouth's men were 12th in the same race, led by Phil Royer's 24:16.6, 36th-place finish.
In the men's White Race, Columbia placed ninth with 329 points and Harvard was 17th with 468 points. The Lions' top finisher was Tom Polan, coming in 40th in 24:27.7 in the 8,000 meter race. For the Crimson, Daniel Chenoweth was third overall in 23:32.7.
Princeton's women placed seventh overall in the Blue Race, led by a pair of top-10 individuals. Alex Banfich was second, finishing the 6k in 20:08.3 while Ashley Higginson was eighth in a time of 20:33.1.
Columbia's women finished 16th in the Blue Race while Dartmouth was 34th overall. The Lions were led by Caroline McDonough's 15th-place finish (20:39.8) while the Big Green's top individual was Katelyn Walker, who crossed the finish in 21:47.9 (110th place).
Harvard's women were the lone Ivy squad in the Blue Race, and placed 16th in that field, led by a 36th-place finish by Jeanne Mack (21:06.9).
Penn State Pre-Nationals
In the men's race, Cornell was the highest Ivy team in the team standings, placing fifth in the field of 27. Yale followed in eighth and Penn in ninth. Bulldog senior Jeff Perrella was the top Ivy individual, running the 5.2-mile course in 25:37 for an eighth-place finish. Big Red senior Nate Edelman placed 10th in 25.40 while the Quakers were led by senior Luke Grau, who placed 20th in 25:53.
In the women's 6k, Cornell placed sixth, Yale took eighth and Penn was ninth in the field of 31 teams. Big Red freshman Devin McMahon placed 18th in 21:16, the second best time run by a Cornellian on Penn State's 6k course. The Quakers' top finisher was Leslie Kovach, who finished 19th in a time oef 21:17. Yale junior Jennifer Downing led the Bulldogs in 44th place overall in 21:52.
Rothenberg Invitational (hosted by Brown University)
The Brown men's and women's cross country teams each took first at their own Rothenbert Invitational. The Bears' men swept the top five spots for 15 points while the women's squad took four of the top five spots for 18 points. Matt Duffy won the 8k course in 24:48.9 while Margaret Connelly was victorious in the women's 5k, finishing in 17:27.1.
