PRINCETON, N.J. -- All eight Ivy League men's cross country teams and seven of eight women's teams were in action last Friday, combining for several strong individual and team performances at the Paul Short and the Notre Dame Invitationals.
On the men's side, each Ivy squad helped comprise the 45-team field at the famed Paul Short Invitational, which was hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Sept. 30. The 8k race included seven of the nation's top-30 teams, with fourth-ranked Oklahoma taking first. Paul Chelimo of North Carolina posted the best time of the field, finishing first overall in 23:55. Columbia turned in an impressive third place showing to lead the Ivies, followed by Brown in seventh, Dartmouth in eighth and Harvard in ninth. To round out the Ivy contingent, Cornell finished 12th, Yale 19th, Princeton 21st (split squad) and Penn 34th.
Harvard, Brown and Dartmouth all placed runners in the top-10. Harvard sophomore James Leakos and Brown senior Dan Lowry finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 24:14 and 24:18. Big Green senior Ethan Shaw finished eighth in 24:19. With seven runners placing between 24th and 52nd, the Lions earned third by showcasing depth and consistency across their lineup.
Elsewhere, Princeton's men's team finished third at the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. Senior Donn Cabral paced the Tigers with a second-place showing (24:00). Cabral finished one second behind BYU's Miles Batty.
Six Ivy League women's cross country teams, with the exception of Columbia (off) and Princeton (Notre Dame Invitational) raced at the 6k Paul Short invitational. The impressive field included six of the top-16 ranked teams, including first place finisher Providence College. The Yale Bulldogs finished sixth in the 45-team field to lead the Ivies, followed closely by Cornell in seventh and Dartmouth in eighth. Brown finished 12th, Harvard 14th and Penn 30th to complete the Ivy showing at the Paul Short.
Bogdana Mimic of Villanova won the individual title in 20:10. The Ivies had two runners finish in the top-15, including Dartmouth sophomore Abbey Dagostino and Cornell junior Katie Kellner. Dagostino finished fourth in 20:22, while Kellner finished 13th in 20:57.
The Princeton women's team placed eighth at the Notre Dame Invitational. Senior Alex Banfich led the team with a 13-place finish (17:19) on the 5k course.
On Oct. 7, the Columbia men and women will take run in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Then on Oct. 8, the men's and women's teams from Brown, Dartmouth and Yale will take part in the New England Championships in Boston, Mass.

The latest national U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) polls were released on Oct. 4. In the men's poll, Princeton moved to 12th, while Columbia jumped into the poll at No. 18. Brown (3) is now receiving votes. In the women's poll, the Tigers moved to 28th, while Yale (16) Dartmouth (7) and Cornell (4) are now in the receiving votes category. The next set of updated polls will be released on Oct. 18.
