PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy softball teams combined for nine wins over the opening weekend of play, which saw seven of the League's eight teams throw their respective first pitches at various early season tournaments.
Dartmouth was the first Ivy team to record a win in 2012 with a 6-1 victory against Saint Peter's at the Coastal Carolina Tournament on March 2. Hillary Barker led the Big Green to the win by pitching seven innings of one-run ball as she scattered four hits and added four stikeouts.
Player of the Week
Harvard sophomore infielder Kasey Lange (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) has earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors after leading the Crimson offense with eight hits, one home run and two RBI in five games this past weekend. The 2011 Ivy League Rookie of the Year collected hits in four of five games, including multiple hits in three.
In five games, Lange batted .471 and slugged .765 with a triple, a home run and the RBI. She also scored a run in Harvard's wins over Toledo (2-1) and Loyola Marymount (2-0). Last season, Lange earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors on April 19 and May 3.

Brown was also perfect in two innings of relief against South Florida in the Crimson's tournament finale. Over the whole weekend, Brown allowed only two earned runs for a 0.78 ERA.
Brown went the distance in both of her starts, including a 2-1 season-opening win over Toledo and a 2-1 loss to Miami (Ohio). The senior gave up just six hits in her four appearances. Last season, Brown was named the League's Pitcher of the Week on three occasions (March 8, March 22 and May 3).

Columbia freshman catcher Liz Caggiano (Bellaire, Texas) hit .455 (5-of-11) as Columbia opened its season against Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State (two games), and Samford at the 13th MSU Bulldog Classic. She also tallied three RBI, one double and one run scored on her way to earning Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors.
Caggiano started her career off in dramatic fashion as she hit the game-winning two-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lions past Louisiana Tech, 5-4, in their season opener. She recorded a hit in each game, going 1-of-2 against Mississippi State in the first meeting and 1-of-3 with a run scored in the second. On Sunday, Caggiano recorded the first multi-hit game of her collegiate career, going 2-of-3 with one RBI against Samford. She becomes the first Lion to earn Rookie of the Week honors since Prophet Gaspard did so on March 22, 2011.
