HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth will make its first NCAA Division I Softball Championship appearance in the desert next weekend, facing ninth-seeded Arizona State on Friday evening in a game that will be televised by ESPNU.
The Big Green (30-17) won the Ivy League Softball Championship Series in three games over Penn last weekend. It will be Dartmouth's first national television appearance. The Big Green will make their first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Dartmouth will face Arizona State (44-10-1) in a 6 pm ET start in the opening round.
In the Ivy League Championship Series last weekend, Dartmouth won the opener, 5-1, before Penn won game two, 5-3. Behind a five-run sixth inning, Dartmouth won the finale, 7-3, on Sunday.
Also in the regional in Tempe are San Diego State (39-17) and Michigan (42-12). The winners will play on Saturday, as will the losers in the double-elimination format.
Dartmouth is led by pitcher Kristen Rumley (18-7) in the circle and Morgan McCalmon at the plate (hitting .389).
