HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth will travel to College Park, Md., to take on top-seeded Maryland in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship. The two teams square off Sunday, March 22 at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The Ivy League Champion Big Green is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and will face Maryland, the Atlantic Coast Conference's regular-season co-champion and tournament champion, on the Terrapins' home court at the Comcast Center.

The Dartmouth-Maryland winner will take on the winner of #8 Villanova-#9 Utah on Tuesday. Villanova takes on Utah in the first game of the doubleheader at Noon on ESPN.

The Big Green (18-10, 13-1 Ivy) is fresh off its 17th Ivy League Championship and fourth in the last five years. The Terps come into the Big Dance with a 28-4 record and a flawless 13-0 mark at home at the Comcast Center. Maryland won the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The two teams have never met. Dartmouth has played one other ACC school in the NCAA Tournament, a heartbreaking, but eye-opening, 71-68 loss at #3 Virginia in 1995 under current head coach Chris Wielgus.

Wielgus is in her 24th season with the Big Green and notched her 400th career win with Dartmouth's Ivy Title-clinching win over Harvard on March 10. The Big Green is led by sophomore forward Brittney Smith (Fort Worth, Texas), who averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds this season en route to Ivy League Player of the Year honors and was a unanimous choice to the All-Ivy first team. Senior guard Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) joined her on the first team for the second-straight year after doing it all for Dartmouth with 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 2.4 assists and 2.2 threes per game.

Further ticket information about the first and second round games will be posted on www.DartmouthSports.com as soon as it becomes available.
