Women's Basketball Weekend Wrap-Up for Feb. 25-26

PRINCETON, N.J. --Princeton completed a two-game sweep on its final weekend road trip of the 2010-11 season with a 65-52 win at Columbia Saturday night. The Tigers also inched closer to securing their second straight Ivy title.

The Bulldogs beat the Crimson at Lavietes Pavilion for the first time since 2004 to reclaim posession of second place at 9-3 with two games remaining. Harvard drops back to 8-3 with three games remaining, including a match-up at Princeton on Saturday, Mar. 4.

Cornell celebrated senior night with a 57-51 win over visiting Penn while Brown spoiled Dartmouth's senior celebration with a 56-55 win in Hanover.

On Friday Princeton cruised to a 71-44 win at Cornell, reaching 20 wins for the second consecutive season. The Tigers also continue their quest for a second consecutive Ivy title, and with four games remaining, sit at 9-1.

Harvard had four players score in double figures on its way to a 72-59 win over Brown. The win keeps the Crimson in sole possession of second place in the League at 8-2. On Harvard's tail is Yale, which claimed a 70-45 win over Dartmouth, moving to 8-3 in Ivy play. In New York, Columbia snapped a four-game losing streak with a 61-53 win over Penn.

, Mass. -- Sophomore Victoria Lippert led four Crimson players in double figures as the Harvard women's basketball team defeated Brown, 72-59. The Crimson improves to 16-8 overall and 8-2 in Ivy League play. Lippert went 7-for 13 from the field for 22 points on the night. Christine Clark was 6-of-8 from the free throw line for 12 points, while Brogan Berry added 11 points and Christine Matera contributed 10. Emma Markley led the Crimson with eight rebounds.

, N.H. -- It has been 22 years since the Yale University women's basketball team last won more than eight games against Ivy League competition in a season, but with three games remaining in the 2010-11 regular season, it looks like that run is on the verge of coming to an end. With a balanced offensive effort and a relentless defense, the Bulldogs kept themselves in the hunt for the Ivy League championship. Seven of the eight players who scored Friday night scored at least eight points to lead Yale to a 70-45 Ivy League win over Dartmouth at Leede Arena.

Princeton improves to 20-4 overall and 9-1 in the Ivy League. Junior Lauren Edwards had a game-high 16 points, while chipping in two rebounds, assists, and steals apiece. Senior Addie Micir contributed 14 points and classmate Krystal Hill added nine.

-- The Columbia women's basketball team used a 19-3 run midway through the second half to gain a 13-point lead, then held on down the stretch to take a 61-54 victory over Penn at Levien Gymnasium on Friday evening. Junior Melissa Shafer had an impressive game at both ends of the floor, scoring a team-high 15 points while also helping to hold the Ivy League's leading scorer Alyssa Baron to just six second-half points.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  The Yale University women's basketball team was aiming to win more than eight games against Ivy League competition in a season for the first time in 22 years on Saturday. To do so, the Bulldogs had to pull off their first season sweep of Harvard 17 years. Sophomore guard Megan Vasquez scored 15 of her game-high 23 points to help Yale accomplish both feats thanks to a 78-64 win over Harvard at Lavietes Pavilion, the Bulldogs' first win at Harvard since Feb. 17, 2001.

, N.H. -- Sophomore guard Sheila Dixon posted a career-high 22 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to lead the Brown University women's basketball team to a thrilling 56-55 victory over Dartmouth College on Saturday evening at Leede Arena. Brown improved its record to 8-18 and 4-8 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth dropped to 7-18 and 3-8 in the league.

Senior Addie Micir led the Tigers with 17 points while sophomore Kate Miller had 13. Senior Krystal Hill added nine points and junior Laura Johnson scored eight. Junior Lauren Edwards led the team on the glass with nine rebounds while sophomore Lauren Polansky grabbed seven.

, N.Y. -- On Cornell women's basketball's senior night, it was a sophomore and a trio of freshmen that led the Big Red to a 57-51 victory over Penn in Newman Arena. With the win, Cornell improved to 6-20 overall (3-9 Ivy League), while the Quakers fall to 10-15 (4-7). Sophomore Clare Fitzpatrick posted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, while freshmen Stephanie Long and Shelby Lyman chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively. Long also grabbed six rebounds and handed out two assists. Sophomore Allyson DiMagno chipped in seven points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal.
