Women's Basketball Weekend Wrap-Up for Feb. 4-5

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Christine Clark had 18 points and Brogan Berry added 17 as Harvard won the battle of the unbeatens in a 73-67 thrilling victory over Princeton Friday night. The Crimson snapped the Tigers' 22-game conference win streak, which was the fourth best in the nation.

Elsewhere around the League, Dartmouth's Faziah Steen poured in a career-high 28 points for the second consecutive game as the Big Green picked up its first Ivy win of the year, a 68-65 final over Penn. In Ithaca, N.Y., Yale outlasted Cornell, 57-49 and in New York, Columbia cruised to a 72-49 win over Brown.

On Saturday, Penn's Alyssa Baron went off for a career-high 38 points – also the highest output of any Ivy this season – but the Quakers came up just short in an 88-84 double-overtime loss to now 5-0 Harvard.

Princeton bounced back from its first Ivy loss with a 75-50 win at Dartmouth, Columbia made it three in a row with a 67-57 win over Yale and Brown snapped an eight-game losing streak with its first Ivy win of the year, a 66-53 final at Cornell.

-- The Columbia women's basketball team connected on a season-high 15 three-pointers and broke open a close game in the second half to pick up its second straight Ivy League victory, a 72-49 decision over Brown on Friday evening at Levien Gymnasium. Junior Melissa Shafer led the long-range assault with five three-pointers and closed with a game-high 17 points to lead four Lions in double figures.

, Mass. -- The Harvard women's basketball team took the driver's seat in the Ivy League race with a 73-67 win over Princeton Friday night at Lavietes Pavilion. The Crimson had three players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field to improve to 12-6 overall and 4-0 in the Ancient Eight. Christine Clark equaled her career-high in points for the fourth time in points, scoring 18 against the Tigers. She was 5-for-11 from the field and 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

, N.Y. -- Sophomore guard Megan Vasquez scored 11 of her 14 points in the second half, shooting 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the half, to lead Yale to a 57-49 road win over Cornell in Ivy League action Friday night. Senior forward Mady Gobrecht scored a game-high 18 points, 10 in the second half, and grabbed six rebounds to power the Bulldogs' offense. Freshman forward Janna Graf scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half.

, N.H. -- Sophomore Faziah Steen scored a career-high 28 points for the second straight game to lead a trio of double-digit scorers as the Dartmouth women's basketball team topped Penn, 68-65. The victory was the first Ivy win of the season for Dartmouth (5-13, 1-3 Ivy) which dressed only nine players to take on a much improved Penn squad (7-11, 1-3 Ivy).

, Mass. -- The Harvard women's basketball team needed a little extra time to secure a win over Penn on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson defeated Penn, 88-84 in double overtime to improve to 13-6 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League. Emma Markley scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds, collected four steals and blocked two shots in the win. Brogan Berry added 17 points for the second night in a row, including clutch free throws down the stretch, to go along with eight assists, six rebounds and three steals. Victoria Lippert chipped in with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Christine Clark added 11 points.

, N.Y. -- Led by sophomore Hannah Passafuime's 15 points and eight rebounds, the Bears earned its first Ivy League victory with a 66-53 win over Cornell University on Saturday night at Newman Arena. The Bears improve to 5-15 overall with a 1-5 mark in the Ivy League, as Cornell drops to 5-15 and 2-4.

-- A total team effort helped the Columbia women's basketball to its third straight victory on Saturday night. Four players reached double-figures in scoring led by reserve guards Melissa Shafer and Taylor Ball, as the Lions moved to 4-2 in the Ivy League with a 67-57 triumph over Yale in front of 1,248 fans on WBCA Pink Zone Night at Levien Gymnasium.

HANOVER, N.H. -- Sophomore Megan Bowen scored a career-high 14 points as the Princeton women's basketball team defeated Dartmouth 75-50 at Leede Arena on Saturday, Feb. 5. All 12 Princeton players played in the game and each had at least two points, as the bench scored 38 of the team's points. Princeton got 52 points in the paint, 34 more than Dartmouth.
