Women's Basketball Weekend Wrap-Up FOr Jan. 28-29

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Harvard and Princeton remained unbeaten in Ivy play, each going 2-0 this weekend. Both teams did their damage on the road as the Crimson beat Columbia and Cornell while the Tigers toppled Brown and Yale. In other action, Penn earned it's first Ivy win Saturday at Brown, while Yale, Columbia and Cornell each earned a 1-1 split over the weekend.

On Friday, upperclassmen paced the Tigers in their 32-point victory over Brown, while underclassmen dominated in the three remaining victories of the night. Yale sophomore Megan Vasquez talied a game-high 16 points against Penn, Harvard rookie Christine Clark knocked down the game-winner against Columbia and Cornell freshman Allyson DiMagno poured in a career-high 20 points as the Big Red defeated Dartmouth.

On Saturday, Princeton, Penn and Harvard used stifling defensive efforts, each holding their opponents under 40 points. In New York, the Big Green cut a 13-point second-half deficit to three with just 12 seconds remaining, but the Lions' Taylor Ward sank three of four free throws in the final seconds to seal a six-point victory.

, R.I. -- Junior Devona Allgood recorded a double-double and senior Addie Micir scored 18 as the Princeton women's basketball team posted a 70-48 win over Brown on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The game was the Tigers' first in 24 days, due to exams and semester break. Princeton improves to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League.

, Conn. -- Sophomore Megan Vasquez recorded a game-high 16 points, 11 coming in the first half, to help lead Yale to a 53-44 win over the University of Pennsylvania at John J. Lee Amphitheater Friday night. The win gives the Bulldogs (7-10, 3-0 Ivy League) their first 3-0 start to Ivy League play since the 2007-08 season.

-- Freshman Christine Clark hit a jumper with 3.5 seconds on the clock to give the Harvard women's basketball team a 69-68 win over Columbia Friday night at Levien Gymnasium. The Crimson improves to 10-6 overall, 2-0 in Ivy League play and 25-0 against the Lions at Levien Gym.

, N.Y. -- Freshman Allyson DiMagno finished with a career-high 20 points to lead four Cornell players in double-figures as the Big Red women's basketball team defeated Dartmouth, 66-55, this evening in Newman Arena. The win ended a two-game winning streak by the Big Green against Cornell and was Cornell's largest win in the series since the 2007-08 season.

, Conn. -- It was a second half surge with junior Lauren Edwards leading the charge as Princeton women's basket turned in a 52-37 win over Yale on Saturday at Lee Amphitheater. After scoring just one basket in the first half, Edwards scored nearly half of her team's second-half points with 15 of the Tigers' 32.

, R.I. -- Another strong defensive effort helped to carry the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team past Brown, 52-32, for its first Ivy win of the season Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. With their second win in Providence in the last three years, the Quakers improved to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in Ivy play this year. It marks the first time since 2004-05 that the Quakers have won seven games before the month of February.

, N.Y. -- The Harvard women's basketball team downed Cornell, 67-36, Saturday night at Newman Arena to remain unbeaten in Ivy League play. The Crimson which had 11 players contribute to the scoring effort improves to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in Ancient Eight play. It was the first time since Feb. 2, 2007, the Crimson has held an opponent to 40 or less points.

-- Senior Lauren Dwyer tallied a team-best 19 points and classmate Kathleen Barry notched her second straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Columbia women's basketball team overcame a poor shooting second half to defeat Dartmouth, 67-61, at Levien Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
