Complete Women's Basketball Weekly Release in pdf format
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Brown (1-2), Harvard (2-1)
and Princeton (2-1) each picked up a win last week as the Ancient
Eight struggled to a combined 3-13 record in a busy non-conference
slate.
With 18 games in this week’s Ivy schedule, all eight squads
will look to boost their records, while Columbia (0-3), Cornell
(0-3) and Dartmouth (0-4) will be in the hunt for that much needed
first win of the season.
The teams are spread about the country this Thanksgiving week,
including Princeton traveling to face Southern California and
Vanderbilt or Quinnipiac at the Vanderbilt Tournament in Nashville.
Columbia and Yale make the longest trips, each heading to the West
Coast. The Lions face San Diego on Saturday while the Bulldogs take
on California and UC Davis.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore guard Niveen Rasheed (Danville, Calif.)
led Princeton in scoring in both games last week as Princeton went
1-1. The Tigers lost at the buzzer to Rutgers, 54-53, and rebounded
with a 69-52 win at Lehigh. On Thursday at the RAC, Rasheed scored
14 points and added seven rebounds against the Scarlet Knights, who
received votes in both the preseason AP Poll and ESPN/USA Today
Coaches Poll. She added three steals and one assist.
Rasheed recorded her first double-double of the season on Sunday,
Nov. 21 in Princeton’s 69-52 win over Lehigh, then ranked No.
18 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25. The victory halted
Lehigh’s 33-game home win streak as Princeton is the first
team to win at Stabler Arena since the 2007-08 season. Rasheed
scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. She also led the team in
steals with four and in assists with four. Rasheed finished the
week with 27 points, 17 rebounds, seven steals and five
assists.
