Complete Women's Basketball Weekly Release in pdf format
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ancient Eight spent the
holiday week primarily on the road, with just three of 18 contests
played on an Ivy home court. All three home games resulted in wins
for the Ivy squads, however, as Cornell (1-5) earned its first win
of the season, 62-54, over Winston-Salem, Dartmouth (2-4) topped
Vermont, 66-51, and Brown (2-4) beat Bryant, 57-49.
Princeton (3-2) earned its first-ever Pac-10 win, beating USC,
60-59, while Dartmouth, Harvard (3-2) and Penn (2-2) each picked up
a road win.
On the slate this week are 13 games, beginning with Penn hosting
Niagra on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Columbia (0-5) will be in search of its
first win Thursday, Dec. 2 when it hosts Wagner and Harvard will
play its first home game on Friday, Dec. 3 against Hartford. The
week concludes on Sunday, Dec. 5 with Florida at Brown, Rider at
Princeton and Columbia at Monmouth.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Addie Micir (Newton, Pa.) scored both free throws
with 5.0 seconds left to give Princeton a 60-59 win over USC on
Friday, Nov. 26. This is Princeton’s first win over a Pac-10
team in program history. She finished the game with 10 points, two
rebounds, two assists and a steal against the Trojans, a team
receiving votes in both national polls. The victory advanced
Princeton to the championship game with host Vanderbilt. Against
No. 22/24 Vanderbilt, Princeton’s first ranked opponent of
the season, the Tigers nearly defeated the Commodores, falling
74-68. Micir led the team in scoring with 20 points, a season-high.
She shot 6-for-13 from long range, matching her career best of six
three-pointers in a game. She added three rebounds, one assist, one
block and one steal. Micir was named to the five-member

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brittney Smith (Fort Worth,
Texas) got the job done on both ends of the court for Dartmouth
this week, recording her 26th and 27th career double-doubles,
bringing her season total to three. The senior had a monster week,
averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game in two
victories for Dartmouth. Smith shot a staggering 60 percent from
the floor and only committed two turnovers while playing 34.5
minutes per game. Against Vermont, Smith cruised to 21 points and
dished out three assists while terrorizing the Catamounts with a
career-high seven steals. At Bryant, Smith battled through an
extremely physical game to come out with her 20 points and 13
rebounds, also adding two assists and two steals. After struggling
from the free throw line during regulation, Smith helped seal the
win in extra time by going 5-of-6 at the stripe and grabbing three
boards.
