PRINCETON, N.J. -- Brown junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Penn freshman forward Kara Bonenberger (Walnutport, Pa.) were named Ivy League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Monday.
Dixon's award is her first of the season and the second of her career, as she previously was named Player of the Week on Feb. 28, 2011. She led the Bears to a 2-1 week, as the team won the 2011 Brown BEAR Basketball Classic. After a win over Rhode Island in which Dixon finished with 16 points and five rebounds, the junior erupted in the championship match against Providence, scoring a career-high 26 points and grabbing six rebounds in the Bears’ 70-57 victory, their first over the Friars since Nov. 26, 2002 and just their fifth overall. For her efforts, Dixon was named to the All-Tournament team. In Brown’s loss to Fairfield, Dixon tallied her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. For the week, she averaged 20.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals.
