ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell women's basketball player Allyson DiMagno's outstanding season continues as the junior forward has been named a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team selection for the first time of her career. She will now be among 40 players to vie for a spot on the prestigious Capital One Academic All-America squad.
A biological sciences major with a 3.79 grade-point average, she becomes just the second Academic All-District selection in the history of the Big Red women's basketball program, joining Virginia McMunigal '10, who was a second-team selection during her senior season.
On the court, DiMagno is averaging a double-double, leading the Big Red in both points (13.9 ppg.) and rebounds (11.9 ppg.). She sits atop the Ivy League rankings and is eighth in the country in rebounding and has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week on three occasions.
Cornell (10-6, 2-0 Ivy) will look to get an early jump in the race for the Ivy League title as it welcomes Princeton (10-5, 1-0 Ivy) and Penn (7-8, 0-1 Ivy) to Newman Arena on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2, respectively. Both games are set to tip off at 7 p.m. Cornell and the Tigers enter the weekend tied for first place in the Ivy League standings as the only two teams remaining undefeated in conference play.
