GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- Brown leads the Ivy League
contingent after day two at the 2011 NCAA Division I Rowing
Championships with its first and second varsity eights in Sunday's
grand finals.
Brown's second varsity eight boat won the first semifinals heat,
topping 2010 champion Virginia, while its first varsity eight took
second behind Stanford in its Saturday morning heat. The Bears'
fours qualified for the petite final after crossing the finish line
fifth, thanks to a late push in the final 500 meters, in the
semifinals.
Princeton joins Brown as the only other Ivy boat in the first
varsity eight grand final after finishing second to Southern
California in its semifinal heat. The Tigers' second varsity eight
and fours look to cap off the weekend with strong showings in their
respective petite finals on Sunday.
All five Ivy schools in the championship regatta have boats
competing on the final day on Lake Natoma with Yale in the petite
finals and Dartmouth and Harvard in the third level finals in all
three races.
