NEW YORK -- Melanie Onufrieff, Columbia's Head Women's Rowing Coach since fall 2004, will step down at the end of the 2011 rowing season, Dr. M. Dianne Murphy, Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education announced today.
"We are grateful to Melanie for her dedication and hard work during her seven-year tenure at Columbia," Murphy said. "We wish her nothing but the best as she begins the next chapter of her career."
Onufrieff joined Columbia Rowing in fall 2004, after six years as head women's rowing coach at Cornell.
In 2010, Columbia earned its highest seed ever at the Eastern Sprints, after the varsity eight had defeated five teams, including Northeastern and Radcliffe to claim the Woodbury Cup.
Columbia will launch a national search in the coming weeks for a head women's rowing coach.
