INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division I
Women’s Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals
selected to participate in the 2011 NCAA Division I Women’s
Golf Regionals on Monday evening and in addition to Yale receiving
the Ivy League’s automatic team berth, Harvard’s
Bonnie Hu and Princeton’s Kelly
Shon were named to the field as two of the 18 individual
entrants. Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 5-7 to
determine the championships field.
A total of 378 participants were selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals as eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.
The championships finals will be held May 18-21 at the
Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas and will be hosted by Texas A&M
University, College Station.
Yale, which bested Harvard by four strokes to claim the 2011 Ivy League crown on Sunday, April 24 at the Atlantic City Country Club, was placed in the East Regional. Stetson and the Central Florida Sports Commission will serve as the hosts of the East Regional, which will be played at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. As the 19th-seeded team in the east, Yale will play in a regional field that includes nine other 2011 conference champions, led by fifth-seeded and SEC champion Auburn. Alabama is the top overall seed in the east.
Shon will also play in the East Regional in the fourth individual position. She finished tied for fifth at the 2011 Ivy League Championship and earned first-team All-Ivy honors.
Hu will travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to tee it up in the Central Regional, which will be played on the Warren Golf Course. Notre Dame will play host to the Central Regional and Hu, who finished tied for 12th at the 2011 Ivy League Championship, is listed in the third individual position.
