Women’s Golf Fall Update 4

PRINCETON, N.J. -- In what is quickly becoming a common theme early in 2010-11 Ivy League women's golf season, a quintet of freshman led Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Princeton in another stretch of solid play. In fact, a freshman turned in the best finish for each of the five teams that competed last week.

LAST WEEK
Columbia, Harvard and Yale teed it up at the 2010 Nittany Lion Women's Invitational on Oct. 2 and 3 in University Park, Pa. on Penn State's Blue Course. Harvard turned in an impressive tie for fourth (309-297-307--913). Yale finished one stroke behind the Crimson in sixth place (299-310-305--914), while the Lions finished 12th (315-315-312--942) in the 17-team field.

The top individual Ivy League performance was turned in by Yale freshman Seo Hee Moon, who finished third (72-74-74--220). Moon's total was just two stokes adrift of medalist Fabia Rothenfluh of Rollins. Freshman Bonnie Hu led Harvard with a sixth-place finish (74-73-75--222). Also carding a top-10 score in the 94-player field was freshman Michelle Piyapattra of Columbia, who finished eighth (75-75-75--225).

On Oct. 3 and 4, Dartmouth played in the ECAC's in Egg Harbor, N.J. on the Twisted Dune Golf Course. The Big Green was able to finish fifth (489) in the rain-shortened event. Freshman Sarah Knapp earned medalist honors for Dartmouth, finishing atop the field after the 27-holes of play. Knapp carded a one-over par 109 to win by three strokes.

Princeton travelled to Columbia, Mo. to take part in the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Oct. 4 and 5. Tiger freshman Kelly Shon shot an even-par 216 (70-70-76) to finish sixth and help the Tigers to an 11th-place showing (300-311-308-919) in the 15-team field.

NEXT WEEK
The Brown Bears return to the course on Oct. 10 and 11 when they play in the Northern Illinois Invitational at the Whisper Creek Golf Course in Huntley, Ill. Penn returns to the course on Oct. 11 and 12 at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.

NOTES
The most recent set of Golfstat's individual rankings were released on Oct. 5 and include the top 250 golfers based on stroke average … the list included two Ivies in the top-100: Yale freshman Seo Hee Moon (42) and Princeton freshman Kelly Shon (81) … Penn sophomore Isabel Han is just outside the top-100 at 103 … all seven Ivy League women's golf teams will meet at the Harvard Invitational in Bolton, Mass. on Oct. 16 and 17… the next Ivy League women's golf fall update will be posted after the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.
