Harvard, Columbia's Piyapattra, Princeton's Shon Conclude NCAA Women's Golf Regional Play
PRINCETON N.J. -- Ivy League Champion Harvard finished 18th at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the Central Regional.
The Crimson closed with a final round 311, its best round of the tournament. Seeded 22nd, Harvard totaled a 943 (315-317-311--943) in three rounds. Freshman Tiffany Lim had a birdie in her final round and finished tied for 23rd to lead the Crimson (73-79-75--227).
Playing as inividuals at the East Regional at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa., Princeton sophomore Kelly Shon tied for 29th and Columbia sophomore Michelle Piyapattra tied for 72nd. Shon finished at six-over par for the regional (72-77-72--222), which she closed with an eagle on her final hole. It marke Shon's second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Piyapattra shot a two-over par 74 in the final round to finish at 13-over par (78-77-74--229).
Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA Championship competition. Of the 378 players selected to the regional sites, 126 advance to the championships finals, including the top-eight teams and two individuals from each regional.
The 2012 NCAA Championship will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., and will be hosted by Vanderbilt.
