Women's Golf Fall Update - 1
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League women’s
golf 2012-13 campaign opened on Sept. 15 and 16, when Brown,
Dartmouth and Yale competed in the Dartmouth Invitational in
Hanover, N.H. The Bulldogs took the team title out of 12 teams with
a total score of 598, while Brown finished third (619) and
Dartmouth came in fourth (622).
Yale sophomore Shreya Ghei led the way for the
Bulldogs, finishing the tournament with a one-under-par total of
143 to win the individual title. In addition to Ghei, four other
golfers made the top-ten: sophomore Marika Liu,
sophomore Caroline Rouse, junior Seo Hee
Moon and junior Sun Gyoung
Park.
Pacing the Bears was sophomore Stephanie Hsieh,
who finished third individually at 146, shooting
two-under–par 69 in the final round, the lowest of the
tournament. Freshman Maggie Min made her college
debut and placed ninth individually on rounds of 76-75--151.
Dartmouth shot 315 on day one of the invite and improved with 307
strokes at Sunday’s finale. With a 76-71--147, sophomore
Jane Lee led the Big Green with a fifth-place
showing. She finished just four strokes behind the individual
winner, Ghei.
Six out of the eight Ivy League schools competed in the Yale
Women’s Fall Intercollegiate in New Haven, Conn, on Sept.
21-23, Harvard finished in third-place out of 16 teams with an
overall score of 886, followed by Yale (t-fourth, 909) and
Princeton (eighth, 919). Brown came in 10th-place with an overall
score of 945, while Penn tied for 11th (954) and Dartmouth finished
14th (977).
Princeton junior Kelly Shon was the top finisher
among the Ivies, placing fourth individually with a three-day tally
of 217 (74-71-72). Harvard sophomore Tiffany Lim,
last year’s Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was right behind
Shon with a fifth-place individual finish, carding a 218
(73-73-72).
All five of Yale’s golfers placed in the top-40, led by Moon,
who recorded a three-day score of 225 (75-73-77).
Brown shot a 54-hole 945 on rounds of 317-317-311. Hsieh turned in
another strong performance with a 75-73-75-223 to finish 14th
individually, putting her in a tie with Penn sophomore
Amanda Chin (81-74-68). Dartmouth’s Lee led
the Big Green, tying for 26th-place with a 78-75-76--229.
Columbia opened its season at the Bucknell Invitational, placing
fifth out of 15 teams. Freshman Monique Ishikawa
finished her first collegiate tournament tied for second
(70-84-740--228). The Lions then finished fourth out of 11 in the
Murray State Invitational. Columbia was led by junior
Michelle Piyapattra, who tied for seventh
overall.
