Yale and Cornell Remain Atop Men's and Women's College Hockey Polls

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Entering the holiday tournament season, the Yale men's and Cornell women's ice hockey teams have remained atop the major collegiate hockey polls for three weeks and counting.

On Dec. 20, the Yale men's hockey team (11-1-0/6-0-0 ECAC/ 2-0-0 Ivy) retained unanimous No. 1 status in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll for the second week in a row, having also achieving unanimous No. 1 status on Dec. 13. The Bulldogs, off to their best start in 80 years, collected 510 points and all 34 first-place votes. The Bulldogs were also ranked No. 1 on Dec. 6.

In the poll, the Bulldogs took over the No. 1 ranking on Dec. 6 and remained No. 1 in the Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 poll releases. In that most recent poll, Yale received 45 of 50 first place votes and amassed 990 points to outdistance second-ranked New Hampshire by 45 points.

The Yale men's hockey team returns to the ice when it plays host to the Russian Red Stars on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at Ingalls Rink.

The Cornell women's hockey team (13-1-0/8-0-0 ECAC/4-0-0 Ivy) took over the No. 1 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll on Nov. 30 and have remained there for a total of three consecutive poll releases, most recently on Dec. 14 when Cornell received 11 of 19 first place votes and totaled 182 points to edge second-ranked Wisconsin by seven points.

The Big Red earned the top spot in the poll on Nov. 29, and have remained atop that poll for both releases since (Dec. 6 & Dec. 13). In the most recent release, Cornell garnered eight of 15 first place votes and totaled 143 points to edge second-ranked Wisconsin by three points.

This season marks the first time Cornell has been ranked as the top team in the nation in each of the polls. The Cornell women's ice hockey team returns from its break on Jan. 7 when it plays at Yale at 7 p.m.
