Cornell Women's Ice Hockey Claims Third Consecutive Ivy League Title
ITHACA N.Y. -- Based on results around the Ivy League this weekend, the Cornell Big Red women's ice hockey team has clinched the 2012 Ivy League title. It marks the thrid conseutive season Cornell has won the Ivy League crown.
With a 7-1-0 record thus far in Ivy play, Cornell has 14 points and can not be caught in the standings, as Princeton finished its Ivy slate with 13 points (6-3-1) and Dartmouth (possible 13 points) and Harvard (possible 12 points) can not catch the Big Red either.
All told, Cornell has now won 11 Ivy League titles and three straight for the first time since claiming at least a share of the Ivy title each year from 1976-1981.
This weekend, Cornell beat RPI on Friday night by the score of 3-0 and then the Big Red downed Union, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Cornell hits the road next weekend to close out its Ivy slate with games at rivals Brown and Yale on Feb. 10 and 11. Prior to that, Cornell welcomes fifth-ranked Mercyhurst at Lynah Rink on Tuesday night.
