PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Cornell and Harvard women's hockey teams will play ECAC Hockey semifinal games on Friday, with a place in the championship game on the line. As the top seed, Cornell is playing host to both semifinal games as well as Saturday's championship game at James Lynah Rink.
In Friday's first semifinal, third-ranked Cornell will play Quinnipiac at 3:30 p.m. Then in the second semifinal, the eighth-ranked Crimson will face tenth-ranked St. Lawrence in a game slated for 7:00 p.m.
Cornell, winners of the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey regular-season titles for the third consecutive season, advanced to the semifinals with a weekend sweep of Brown on Feb. 24 and 25. The Big Red won those contests by scores of 4-2 and 6-0. On the same dates, Harvard swept Princeton at home, winning the games by scores of 5-3 and 4-3 (ot) to advance.
Last season, Cornell claimed the ECAC Hockey tournament title for the second year in a row, beating Dartmouth by a 3-0 score at Lynah Rink.
The field of eight teams for the 2012 NCAA Women's Frozen Four will be announced on Sunday, March 4. Eight teams will be selected with regional competition taking place at campus sites on March 9-10. Winners of the regionals will advance to the Frozen Four, which will be played at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn. The tournament will be hosted by Minnesota-Duluth. The national semifinals will take place on March 16; the championship game will the be played on March 18.
