PRINCETON, N.J. -- All eight Ivy League teams opened their 2012 campaigns on Saturday, and after the dust settled, the League was out to a 6-2 mark with wins by Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale. Brown fell at No. 16 Ohio State and Columbia lost to Patriot League foe American.

The first Ivy League weekly awards of the season went to Princeton junior Jaci Gassaway (Severna Park, Md.), who was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Harvard senior Melanie Baskind (Framingham, Mass.), who was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Gassaway led the seventh-ranked Tigers to a 16-3 win over Villanova. The junior set career-highs in points (seven) and goals (five) and tied her personal-best in assists (two). Her five goals came on just six shots and she also recorded two draw controls and one caused turnover.

Baskind collected a game-high five ground balls and recorded two caused turnovers and two draw controls while leading No. 13 Harvard to an 11-9 win over cross-city rival Boston U. The senior made sure that each of her three shots counted, recording her ninth-career hat trick.

In other League action, Cornell held Rutgers scoreless for the final 15 minutes of the game to win on the road, 8-7, No. 6 Penn defeated neighboring Drexel, 18-8, Yale bested Holy Cross, 17-13 and No. 9 Dartmouth defeated New Hampshire, 13-7.
