PRINCETON, N.J. -- The second week of the Ivy women's lacrosse season was also the first week of League play, as six teams opened their conference slate.
No. 15 Dartmouth defeated Yale, 9-8, Cornell took down Harvard, 12-6 and Brown outscored Columbia, 14-10. Seventh-ranked Penn and No. 8 Princeton had their hands full with top-10 matchups, as the Quakers fell to No. 2 North Carolina, 15-6, and the Tigers dropped a pair of hard-fought games, first to Rutgers, 11-10 in double-overtime, and then to No. 5 Duke, 12-9.
In other non-conference action, Columbia picked up a 14-5 win over Mount St. Mary's and Brown defeated Manhattan, 9-2.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Columbia junior Kacie Johnson (Wilton, Conn.) totaled six goals, eight assists and 14 points in two games and was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. Johnson finished one-point shy of her career-high with a game-high eight points in the Lions' 14-5 win over Mount St. Mary's, posting two goals and a personal-best six assists. She then tallied a game-high six points on four goals and two assists in a losing effort to Brown.
For the week, Johnson also recorded four groundballs, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. She earned the second Offensive Player of the Week award of her career, as she received the award on April 11, 2011.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth held off Yale to win its Ivy League opener, 9-8. Sophomore goalie Kristen Giovanniello (Old Brookville, N.Y.) was instrumental in her team's victory, finishing with seven saves and four groundballs. Her seven saves were a season-best and the most since she tallied 11 in Dartmouth's 9-8 win over then-No. 1 Maryland on May 1, 2011.
On Saturday, with the game knotted at eight, Giovanniello held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 12 minutes to give the Big Green a chance to record the gamewinner, which senior Sarah Plumb did with 2:12 remaining. Giovanniello did the rest to improve to 2-0 on the year.
