PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 34th season of Ivy League women's lacrosse kicks off this weekend with all eight teams opening their 2013 campaigns.
Saturday, Feb. 23 features seven games. At noon, Yale travels to Holy Cross, followed by four games at 1:00 p.m., as Columbia, Penn and Princeton hosts Mount St. Mary's, Drexel and Villanova, respectively, and Brown takes on George Mason. Cornell faces Canisius at 2:00 p.m. and Dartmouth takes to the Oregon Trail to take on the Ducks at 3:00 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, Harvard opens its season with a road contest at Stanford at 6:00 p.m.
Five of the League's teams are listed in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason poll, led by Penn at No. 11. Dartmouth is close behind at No. 12 and Cornell comes in at No. 16. Harvard and Princeton are each in the receiving votes category.
Last season, Penn won its sixth-straight title, the longest such streak since Harvard won seven in a row from 1987-92. The Quakers earned their fifth outright title in the past six years with a 6-1 Ivy mark. In the Ivy League Tournament, Dartmouth and Penn advanced to the championship, where the Big Green held off the host Quakers, 6-4.
Penn joined the Big Green in the NCAA Tournament but both teams fell in the opening round, Dartmouth to Syracuse, 15-5, and the Quakers to Loyola (Md.), 10-9.
