Ivy Wrestling Teams Ready for EIWA Championships
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Ivy League wrestling teams travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take part in the 107th Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 in Bucknell's Sojka Pavilion. Bucknell is serving as the host school for a conference championship for the first time since 1997 when it hosted the ECWA Championships.
The EIWA was allocated 45 automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, which takes place March 17-19 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Only the Big Ten Conference received more automatic qualifiers (64). NCAA automatic qualifiers will be determined by their place at the EIWA Championships. The weight-by-weight breakdown for the EIWA is as follows: 125 (five), 133 (three), 141 (five), 149 (five), 157 (five), 165 (four), 174 (five), 184 (four), 197 (five) and 285 (four).
Forty-nine additional at-large qualifiers who do not earn automatic berths will be selected at the conclusion of all conference tournaments. The at-large qualifiers will be announced March 9.
Cornell, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, is also the No. 1 ranked team in the EIWA. Additional Ivy League teams ranked in the Feb. 21 release of the EIWA's top eight are No. 5 Penn and No. 7 Columbia. The Big Red hold the No. 1 individuals at 125, 133, 149, 165, 174 and 197.
