Seven Ivies Secure All-American Status, Cornell Remains in Team Title Hunt

PHILADELPHIA -- While exact places will not be determined until Saturday, seven Ivy League wrestlers achieved All-American status Friday night at the 2011 NCAA Divsion I Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Five of those wrestlers come from Cornell, which is also still in contention for its first-ever team title. The Big Red concluded the fourth session of action in second place with 75 points, trailing only Penn State (92.5 points). Sophomore Kyle Dake (149) advanced to his second straight finals bout and will face Penn State's Frank Molinaro for the 2011 title. Fellow Cornell wrestlers Mike Grey (133), Mack Lewnes (174), Steve Bosak (184) and Cam Simaz (197) will compete in Saturday morning's place matches, each still with the opportunity to palce as high as third.
Harvard's Walter Peppelman (157) secured All-America status and will wrestle for seventh place. Peppelman is Harvard's 25th All-American and 17th under the David G. Bunning Head Coach for Harvard Wrestling Jay Weiss. This year marks the sixth straight year the Crimson has had at least one All-American.
Penn's Zack Kemmerman (141) became the Quakers' 25th All-American with a 5-4 decision over Andrew Alton of Penn State. The senior will wrestle for seventh place Saturday morning.
Saturday's medal round begins at 11 a.m. and is being broadcast live on ESPNU HD. The finals session begins at 7:30 p.m. and is broadcast on ESPN, ESPN3.com and ESPN Mobile TV.
