PHILADELPHIA -- Harvard senior forward
Katherine Sheeleigh has been selected by the
Boston Breakers with the 19th pick in the third round of the 2011
Women’s Professional Soccer Draft. With the selection by the
Breakers, Sheeleigh will be able to continue her soccer career in
Cambridge, since the WPS franchise plays its home games at Harvard
Stadium.
Sheeleigh, a native of New Vernon, N.J., was the 2010 Ivy League
Player of the Year, as well as a finalist for the prestigious
Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. A four-time All-Ivy choice, as
well as the Ancient Eight Rookie of the Year in 2007, Sheeleigh
garnered Soccer America and National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA) All-America honors as a senior. An NEWISA Senior
Bowl selection, Sheeleigh also succeeded in the classroom, earning
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District accolades last season.
She led the Ivy League with 25 points in 2010 and tied teammate
Melanie Baskind for the conference lead with nine
goals. Sheeleigh’s 1.67 points per game as a senior ranked
10th in the nation, as she helped Harvard to a 9-7-1 record and
4-3-0 mark in the Ancient Eight.
Sheeleigh, a co-captain of the Crimson last year, concluded her
collegiate career ranked fifth in Harvard history with 31 goals
stands sixth in the Crimson record books with 79 points.
