PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League women’s
soccer teams kicked off the conference slate of their season and
Penn, Columbia, Princeton and Dartmouth each got off to a solid
start by winning their Ivy openers.
The Quakers handed defending League champion Harvard a 1-0
loss, scoring on a corner kick in the waning moments of
regulation. Quakers sophomore Kaitlyn
Moore waited until the last second to net her
first career goal, actually the fourth-to-last second, scoring
with 3.9 seconds remaining to break a scoreless tie. The
winner of this game has gone on to win the League each of the
last three years and Penn certainly hopes that plays out
this season as well.
Columbia handed Cornell a 1-0 loss and Princeton and Dartmouth
defeated Yale and Brown, respectively, by matching 2-1 scores. In
non-conference action, the Bears held off UMass, 1-0, while
Dartmouth recorded its highest margin of victory since a 7-0 win
over Vermont in 2010 with a 5-0 shutout over NJIT. The Big Green
has won four in a row and its only two losses have been to ranked
teams, No. 9 UCF and No. 21 Rutgers.
Week six features more Ivy play, as Penn faces Cornell on Sept.
28, while on Sept. 29, Dartmouth takes on Princeton, Yale plays
Harvard and Columbia battles Brown.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Princeton senior Jen Hoy (Sellersville, Pa.)
posted her second hat trick of the season and the third of her
career with three goals against Lafayette in a 5-2 Tigers win. She
moved into fourth-place on the school’s career goals list
with 27 and fifth-place on the program’s career points list
with 61.
Hoy, who also was named Player of the Week on Sept. 3, is the
first Tiger to receive the honor twice in one season since
Esmeralda Negron earned the award three times in
2004. For Hoy, the accolade is the third of her career.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth freshman Corey Delaney (Chatham, N.J.)
did not need to wait long to receive her first career outright Ivy
League weekly award. Delaney, who shared the honor with
Penn’s Erin Mikolai last week, posted two
assists in two games to help her squad to an undefeated 2-0 week,
including a 2-1 win over Brown in the conference opener for both
teams.
Delaney tallied an assist in each of Dartmouth’s two games
and is now tied for the team lead in assists with four. She set up
Marina Moschitto’s gamewinner against the
Bears with a through ball into the box that Moschitto one-timed to
the back of the net. Delaney is the first Big Green to earn two
Rookie of the Week honors in one season since Chrissy
Lozier in 2010.
