PRINCETON, N.J. - Harvard junior Amanda Sobhy (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) became the second women's squash player in Ivy League history to win Player of the Year honors three times when the League's annual awards were announced Wednesday.

Sobhy joined Princeton's Julia Beaver as the only women to win the award at least three times since it was established in 1992. Beaver won the award all four seasons at Princeton (1998-2001). Sobhy will have a chance to do the same next season.

Sobhy was about as dominant as you could imagine this season. She won each of her 17 matches by 3-0 scores this season on her way to her third consecutive CSA Individual National Championship. She will enter her senior year with a perfect 47-0 mark in college action.

Maria Elena Ubina (Stamford, Conn.) was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year. She is Princeton's first Rookie of the Year on the women's side since Beaver won the award in 1998 and just the fourth Tiger to win it since the award was established in 1992. Playing in the No. 1 slot all year as a freshman, she finished the year 10-4 overall, losing in the CSA Individual Championship's quarterfinal round. She went 4-3 in Ivy League play this season.

Nine of the 10 All-Ivy selections were unanimous honorees by the League's coaches. Harvard had three selections, while Cornell, Penn and Yale each had two. Joining Sobhy were Harvard teammates Haley Mendez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Katie Tutrone (Baltimore), Cornell's Danielle Letourneau (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and Jessenia Pacheco (Bronx, N.Y.), Penn's Anaka Alakamony (Chennai, India) and Yan Xin Tan (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Princeton's Ubina and Yale's Millie Tomlinson (Derbyshire, U.K.) and Kim Hay (Newcastle, U.K.).
