Women's Tennis In Full Swing Going Into ECAC Indoors

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League women's tennis spring season is off and running going into the annual ECAC Division I Women's Tennis Indoor Championship, to be held in Princeton's Jadwin, beginning on Friday, Feb. 18, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2:30 p.m. 

Eight teams will compete for the 2011 championship, including two-time defending champion Yale. Host Princeton received the top overall seed. The Tigers will face eighth seeded NJIT, a newcomer to the ECAC tournament. Yale received the second seed and will face seventh-seed Columbia in the first round. Third-seeded Harvard will face sixth-seeded Cornell, with fourth-seeded Dartmouth facing fifth-seeded Brown to finish out the first day of play.

Ivy women's tennis has a strong showing in the latest ITA rankings with three teams -- Princeton 36th, Yale 40th and Harvard 55th -- ranked as of Feb. 14. Columbia enters ECAC Indoors atop the standings at 5-0 with Cornell also undefeated in dual match play at 3-0. Penn, which does not participate in the ECAC Indoors event, is also on the courts this weekend facing Stony Brook on Feb. 20.

In the individual rankings, four Ivies are ranked in singles, led by Penn's Connie Hsu at 15th followed by Harvard's Holly Cao (47), Yale's Elizabeth Epstein (101) and Dartmouth's Holly Scott (122).

Following ECAC Indoors tournament, League teams continue the dual match season against non-conference foes before the Ivy matches begin in late March.
