Women's Tennis Teams Back in Action at USTA/ITA Regional
PRINCETON, N.J. -- After an idle weekend, all eight Ivy women's tennis teams are back in action this weekend Oct. 22-26 at USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Dartmouth at the Boss Tennis Center.
The regional tournament will determine which players head to Flushing, N.Y., for the 2010 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 4-7. Click here for results and information from all the regional tournaments.
A LOOK BACK
The Ivy League presence was prevalent at the 2010 USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center
Women's College Invitational Oct. 9-11 in Flushing, N.Y. with
Ivies competing seven of the eight singles finals and three of the
four doubles finals, capturing four titles in all.
Brown freshman Ariel Caldwell claimed a three-set win over Columbia's Ioana Alecsiu to claim the Flight E singles championship. Caldwell was one of four Bears playing in the finals of their respective flights, as senior Bianca Aboubakare, sophomore Misia Krasowski, freshman Maxine Thomas also competed in singles flight finals. Garnering the Flight F singles title, Harvard junior Samantha Gridley won three-straight matches in straight sets capped by a 6-3, 7-5 win over Binghamton's Marina Bykovskaya.
Cornell's Christine Ordaway and Ryann Young picked up the Flight C doubles title over fellow Ivies Jeri Reichel and Christina Danosi of Dartmouth who were scheduled to compete in the Monday final, but had to withdraw because of academic commitments. The Big Red duo of Elizabeth Kaufman and Geraldine Leong earned the Flight D doubles crown with a 8-6 victory over Rutgers' Michelle Green and Leonora Slatnick.
