Columbia Contingent, Cornell Duo Among Entries at USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Ivy League men's and women's players are set to play in the culmination event of the 2013-14 fall college tennis season -- the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean National King Tennis Center on Nov. 7-10.
The Ivy League contingent participating includes Columbia junior Winston Lin in singles and Columbia's duo of juniors Ashok Narayana and Max Schur, Cornell's pair of junior Sam Fleck and freshman Chris Vrabel in doubles on the men's side with Columbia sophomore Kanika Vaidya in singles and a pair of Lion duos in doubles, freshman Tina Jiang and junior Crystal Leung as one pair and Vaidya and senior Bianca Sanon, on the women's side. Hosted by Columbia, this prestigious tournament features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Participants in the event gained automatic entry by winning one of the 12 Division I USTA/ITA Regional Championship held across the country in October, winning the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, finishing as singles quarterfinalists at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, singles semifinalists at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships or being consolation champions and doubles finalists at both All-American events.
Other Ivy tennis teams are closing out their fall schedules as well this weekend. On the women's side, Harvard hosting several schools including Brown at its own invitational and Yale playing in the Northwestern Hidden Duals in Evanston, Ill. On the men's side, Harvard is at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. and Princeton plays in the Lakewood Ranch Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
