Indoor Track & Field Update 6

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton's men's 4x400m relay team broke the Ivy League record at Penn State's Sykes/Sabock Challenge while two other Ivy top performers' lists were cracked during last weekend's meets.

Just one week after setting a school record in the event, the Tiger foursome of Mike Eddy, Tom Hopkins, Russell Dinkins and Austin Hollimon raced to a first-place finish of 3:09.35 at the Sykes/Sabock Challenge, breaking the previous League record of 3:10.19 set by Cornell in 2008.

The other men's Ivy League all-time performers' top five mark to be set last weekend was done so by Columbia's Jeff Moriarty. Competing at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, Moriarty won the 1,000m run in 2:20.77, which was the fastest time recorded last week across the nation, as well as moving him into the No. 2 position in the League's all-time top performers' list.

In women's action at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, Columbia's 4x400m relay recorded a time of 3:40.78, the No. 3 all-time League mark. That quartet of Lions included   Kyra Caldwell, Miata Morlu, Uju Ofoche and Sharay Hale. Hale also raced to a 53.75, second place finish in the 400m dash. That mark is Hale's season-best time, though shy of her career best of 53.46.

There was little movement in the most recent USTFCCCA Division I Regional Rankings, released Tuesday. In the men's Mid-Atlantic Region, Princeton remained at No. 2 and Penn held steady at No. 11. In the Northeast Region, Cornell remained at No. 2, Dartmouth dropped one stop to No. 4 and Columbia rose one spot to No. 13.

In the women's Mid-Atlantic Region, Princeton and Penn held at No. 2 and No. 9, respectively. In the Northeast Region, Columbia and Cornell remained at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Harvard dipped one spot to No. 12, Brown fell four spots to No. 13 whiel Dartmouth also fell four spots to No. 14.

Two weeks of regular-season action remain on the schedule for the Ancient Eight before the 2011 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 26-27. The meet returns to the famed Armory for the first time since 2007 and just the second time since 1952.
