Four Ivies Qualify for 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Four Ivy League athletes have earned qualfying marks for the 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships held March 11-12 at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.

The lone Ivy male to earn qualification is Penn freshman high jumper Maalik Reynolds. His seed mark entering the NCAA's is 2.21 meters, a hieght he achieved in his very first collegiate meet on Jan. 15. On Mar. 27 Reynolds won the high jump Ivy title with a mark of 2.10m and, just last week, claimed the IC4A title with a mark of 2.17m.

On the women's side, Columbia's Sharay Hale, Princeton's Ashley Higginson and Yale's Kate Grace are also all headed to College Station.

Higginson qualified for the 3,000m run with a time of 9:14.47 run at the New York Road Runner Saturday Night at The Armory race on Jan. 29. Her time is the second-best 3,000m time in Princeton indoor history. This is Higginson's first time competing in the NCAA Indoor Championships and first Tiger to compete in the championships since Liz Costello did so in the mile in 2008. Higginson competed in the steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2009 and 2010. She earned All-America honors last spring, finishing third in the nation.

Hale, the two-time reigning Ivy League Heptagonal Most Outstanding Performer, has qualified for the 400m dash. Her seed time of 53.02 was achieved on Feb. 12 at the NYRR Saturday Night at the Armory III meet.

Grace will compete in the mile run, after earning her seed time of 4:39.52 at the Harvard-Yale-Princeton tri-meet on Feb. 12. Grace earned All-American honors in 2009 in the 800m run.
